So you want to give up smoking - become a person who no longer smokes.
Congratulations - a good decision.
But why do you feel you need to give up smoking now? Is it maybe health reasons? Or do you want to save some money? Or maybe you have asked yourself the question what has smoking done for me?
The answer to that last question is, it has started you on the path towards not good health later in life and also it has cost you a lot of money that you are paying to an already quite rich tobacco company and the Government. All they have done for you is given you an addiction to the tar and a drug called nicotine.
So if you have made your decision to stop smoking and want to take control of that habit, hypnotherapy can help you. It does it by communicating with the subconscious mind to change the responses to the habit and break the addiction of the nicotine drug, prepare you for any withdrawal symptoms and reduce the need or indeed desire to smoke tobacco again.
Let me give you some facts. Once you do give up smoking regardless of whether it is cigarettes, roll-ups, cigars or a pipe you will soon notice that your sense of smell returns, you will also realise that your taste buds recover and you will once more start to really enjoy your food. You will be free of the repugnant smell of stale tobacco that surrounds smokers on the clothes, skin hair and on the breath and in the mouth. In fact your health generally will start to improve. Your mind will become clearer; in fact you will be surprised at the difference you feel within your self once your body starts to heal.
Maybe you were not aware that there are over 4,000 chemical compounds going into the manufacture of those cigarettes. Frightening isn't it to think that every time you inhaled the smoke it contains cancer inducing carbon monoxide (think petrol exhaust fumes) nicotine, acetaldehyde, acetone (nail polish remover) noxformic acid, hydrogen cyanide (a poisonous gas), catechol, ammonia (household cleaner), benzene, acrolein, acrylonitrile, phenol (this can be put into toilet cleaners), formaldehyde (preservative for body parts), carbazole and that is just to name a few. It is amazing isn't it? Also to think about is how many health problems these chemicals lead to.
Another thought, the mainstream and side stream smoke whenever you smoke also contains all those chemicals and so they also affect every one near by the smoke, plus the smoke in the air doesn't dissipate for quite some time. So although maybe you think you are enjoying your smoke everybody around you also has to smoke with you.
The tobacco companies add substances not only to keep you addicted but also to mask the irritation and roughness of the effect of smoking the nicotine, they add sweet tastes to the mix such as cocoa, liquorice, sugar and others to enhance the taste, which is a reason that especially encourages young smokers to start and carry on.
When you think back to when you first started to try cigarettes it wouldn't have tasted or felt pleasant. Your body didn't want you to smoke and input all those harmful chemicals. But you carried on and your body had to adjust because smoking first became a habit then an addiction. There could be times when you really enjoyed a smoke more than other times, say first thing in the morning, or on a social occasion. No one is saying it will be easy to give up this drug but if you have the wish to stop smoking then you will.
